New Claimant

File a New Claim

Please note, there are two different online systems to file a new claim: one for regular unemployment (wages from a W2) and a different system if you are a gig worker or self employed (also known as 1099 workers). Please read before you file a claim or you may be redirected to file a different unemployment claim once you begin your application. If you have income as both a regular worker and self-employed, you will likely need to start with regular unemployment

File a Regular Unemployment Claim

If you received $2,500 or more in wages on a W-2 from any employer where taxes were withheld since January 2019.

How to File A Regular Claim

Important Information Before Filing
  • Unemployment Benefits are taxable income, so you will need to answer whether you want taxes to be withheld or not (and if so, whether you want state taxes, federal taxes, or both to be withheld).
  • Be prepared to provide your work history for the last eighteen months.

Step 1: Collect any income-related information like pay stubs, etc.

Step 2: Fill out an application online.

Step 3: Review your claim before submitting it and write down your payment request dates.

File a PUA and PEUC
  • If you have been only self-employed (see below for list of types of employment) for the last 18 months and you pay taxes on that income.
  • If you are an employee of a nonprofit church or religious organization that does not pay unemployment. NOTE: Some religious organizations may elect to pay unemployment and then you have to file a regular unemployment claim.
  • If you have exhausted your regular unemployment benefits, you may be eligible for additional benefits either Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA).

How to File A PUA or A PEUC Claim

Important Information

This step does not apply if you are filing for extended Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation.

Step 1: Collect your 1040 tax forms for the 2018 or 2019 tax year, whichever you filed most recently. (As noted above, if you had any wages in a W2 you should file a regular UI claim here.)

Step 2: File a claim online. You will need to provide your driver's license and you will need to accept the Experian identity verification or your claim will be delayed and you will not be able to receive your benefits.

Step 3: Review your claim before submitting it.
