The pandemic has upended the world of work for both workers and employers; millions of people are unemployed and many businesses are struggling to stay afloat.

To highlight the no-cost services and resources Workforce Centers provide to job seekers and employers, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) has chosen “Workforce Services” as this week’s theme.

“We want Coloradans to know we’re open for business,” said Joe Barela, Executive Director of CDLE. “Most of our services are virtual, and free. We hope that both workers and employers will take advantage of these services to further their career goals and help their business not only survive but thrive. One quality I especially appreciate in our expert and dedicated staff is their ability to create customized plans for both workers and businesses; I encourage all to reach out to their local workforce center to learn more about their offerings.”

Colorado’s 52 Workforce Centers provide a wide range of free services for both workers and employers across the state. Career counselors can connect workers and job seekers to local employment, training, and educational opportunities, as well as any available funding; they can also help clients improve their interviewing skills and resume. Employers will also benefit from Workforce Centers’ knowledgeable staff, who can connect them to funding and training opportunities while also helping them recruit, hire, and keep the skilled talent they need to grow.

During Workforce Development Month, CDLE will be highlighting upcoming trainings, events, and resources to help both employers and workers navigate this new world of work. Upcoming events are listed below.

The themes for the upcoming weeks are:

September 21: Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships benefit both employers and workers: employers get the skilled talent they need to succeed, while workers have the opportunity to upskill or resell while earning a paycheck. This week, CDLE will be outlining apprenticeship resources for employers as well as workers.

September 28: Impacted Industries
Hospitality, Restaurants, and Retail: While the pandemic has affected nearly every sector of the economy, hospitality, restaurants, and retail have been especially hard hit. CDLE will be highlighting resources businesses and workers in these industries can use to take their next step.
