Federal Pandemic Benefits Ending in September

Per the American Rescue Plan Act, federal pandemic benefit programs including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), and Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) will expire on Monday, September 6, 2021.

The duration of these federal benefit programs was determined by Congress, and Colorado does not have the power to extend them.

By law, we cannot pay partial weeks, so the final week that benefits will be paid for these federal programs in Colorado is the week ending Saturday, September 4, 2021. If you are currently receiving PUA, PEUC, and/or FPUC benefits, those benefits will end on that date.

Reminder: Enhanced MyUI+ Account Security Measures Coming Soon

In order to better safeguard Colorado unemployment claimants against scams and other attempts to compromise their accounts, we will be adding multi-factor authentication (MFA) to the MyUI+ login process in early August.

Multi-factor authentication simply means the use of more than one method to verify that a user is who they claim to be. You may already be familiar with other apps or websites which, in addition to asking for a password, ask you to verify a code sent via text message or email. MFA will significantly enhance the security of all MyUI+ accounts and make it much harder for scammers to compromise your account and steal your benefits.

After we launch this feature in the coming weeks, you will be required to set up multi-factor authentication when you log in to your MyUI+ account. Thereafter, depending on which option you select, each time you log in, you will receive a code either via text message, email, or an authenticator app on your phone, which you’ll enter into MyUI+ to confirm that it’s you accessing your account.

Watch your email for more information, including step-by-step instructions with screenshots, coming soon.

Watch Out for Job Application Scams

We’re continuing to closely monitor worldwide scammers targeting unemployed Coloradans. As we’ve mentioned in previous updates, please beware of text messages which claim to be from CDLE and ask you to click a link. CDLE will never send you a text message with a link. If you receive a text message purporting to be from CDLE with a link, do not click the link.

Scammers are also targeting Coloradans with job application scams, in which scammers create fake listings on job boards and extend fake job offers in an attempt to trick unsuspecting applicants into volunteering personal information, bank account details, or other sensitive data. When applying for jobs online, be wary of prospective “employers” who ask for your Social Security number, banking information, or identity documents via messaging apps or email.

Notices of Determination

Over the coming weeks, some claimants will receive a Notice of Determination in the mail concerning benefits which were received during the COVID-19 pandemic. These notices are related to the administration of existing claims and are not an indication of any additional benefits or eligibility. Most claimants can disregard this notice. However, claimants’ former employers could appeal benefit payments charged against their accounts, so please be sure to participate in the appeal process if you receive a separate appeal notification.

Reminder: Low-Cost Health Insurance Options Available for Unemployment Recipients

Coloradans who have received unemployment benefits for at least one week beginning in 2021 can now qualify for $0 and low-cost health insurance plans through Connect for Health Colorado. Enrollment is open through August 15, but the sooner you apply and enroll, the sooner your coverage will begin.

To find out if you qualify for either $0 or low-cost health insurance plans, use the anonymous Quick Cost and Plan Finder tool at planfinder.connectforhealthco.com. Click the box that says, “I received unemployment benefits in 2021” when asked about your income. Certified experts are available to help you navigate enrollment and ensure you are receiving all the financial help you qualify for at no cost. To find an Enrollment Center and schedule an appointment with a certified expert, visit connectforhealthco.com.

Reminder: Please Include Claimant ID on All Mailed/Faxed Documents

When submitting documentation to CDLE by mail or fax, you must return verification documents with the barcoded form(s) which were sent to you. Please include your name and Claimant ID number on any pages which are not a barcoded CDLE form. This will allow staff to more quickly locate your claim and reduce processing delays.

Additionally, when submitting documents by fax, there is no need to include a fax cover sheet — these are unnecessary and increase processing time. Please submit documentation via your MyUI+ account rather than faxing or mailing whenever possible in order to reduce processing delays.

Sector of the Week

As pandemic-related restrictions continue to ease up, an increasing number of employers are beginning to resume hiring. Each week we will highlight a sector that’s hiring. This week’s sector is remote jobs. In the past month, according to EMSI, there were 18,717 remote jobs listed in Colorado; as of July 28, 2021, 30,644 remote jobs are listed on ConnectingColorado.com.
