(DENVER) – What is paid family leave? What does it cover? Who can get it? And how are businesses going to pay for it?

Those are just some of the questions Coloradans can get answered on Tuesday, Feb. 28, when the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE)’s Division of Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) plays host to its first statewide virtual town hall specifically devoted to Colorado’s new paid family leave program.

The FAMLI Division is working hard to answer the many questions Colorado workers and employers have about the new program, and this virtual town hall series will meet tens of thousands of Coloradans where they are.

The first town hall will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28 in English from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and again in Spanish from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on the same day. Participants can join online or over the phone. No advance registration is necessary, but interested participants are encouraged to RSVP in order to receive a reminder with dial-in instructions before the session. Additional town halls are scheduled in March and posted on famli.colorado.gov.

The Division will go over the basics of the program – approved in a bipartisan statewide vote in 2020 – and share some updates to the platform businesses are using to submit premiums and wage data to meet their obligations for this new social safety net. Division leaders will also answer questions and gather feedback. Employers, third party administrators, local governments and individuals and families are encouraged to attend.

As Congress debates a national paid-leave program and a growing number of states debate crafting their own programs, Colorado is already off and running with a voter-approved, robust program to help Coloradans take care of themselves or their families during life circumstances that pull them away from their jobs. Colorado’s FAMLI premium collections started Jan. 1 of this year, and benefits become available to workers in 2024.

Members of the media planning to attend are asked to RSVP by contacting cdle_pr@state.co.us.
